Estrogen Dominance Relapse - What to do?

by Heather
(Louisiana)

Hello -

I'm estrogen sensitive and could not take the pill because of the extreme side effects (anger, anxiety and enlarged breasts. My body has always produced a minimal amount of progesterone and I had to supplement progesterone pills to maintain my 3 pregnancies.

Eight years after my last pregnancy, I began using progesterone cream. Last February, after the first month of high dosing, I dropped 17 pounds, breasts became smaller and less tender, and my anxiety disappeared. After about three months, I tried to reduce my dosage. Apparently not slowly enough because twice I have had the weight begin to creep up, water retention, anxiety, and enlarged tender breasts. Now 13 months later, all the original symptoms are back and I'm at a complete loss with what to do. I currently go through 2 tubes a month and take every supplement possible to help fight my estrogen dominance. I go through periods (a couple months to sometimes one week) where everything is normal again; weight is down and I'm not aware of my breasts at all and then suddenly in a 24 - 48 hour time period my breasts have swollen and hurt and my weight has gone up 5 pounds.

Anybody else have this problem? I'm loosing my mind!

Any suggestions?

check out your thyroid
by: R.

Hi -

I have been battling estrogen dominance problems for my daughter who has catamenial seizures and migraines, and we are finally learning about the connection of low thyroid function (not production, and labs will show just fine!) .... we have been implementing some of the findings of Dr. Ray Peat and his study of the connection between estrogen dominance, low progesterone and low thyroid. There are dietary changes that we have seen begin to help - Lita Lee also has very good information as far as that goes as well. Not sure if this is your problem, but from what you are describing based on what I've been learning, you may want to check it out.
Hope this info helps --- I understand feeling desperate!
