DIM

Hello Wray, I have a question... I would like to know the safety and effectiveness of Dim to help get rid of excess estrogen?

And also since it is made out of crufercious vegetables and soy can it suppress thyroid function?

Thank you!

Hi Melissa. DIM appears to be safe, and according to studies can be effective against some cancers, see these papers...

Paper 3
I haven't found a study showing it actually reduces oestrogen. It appears to act on the oestrogen receptors by blocking them. Although it's found in cruciferous vegetables, it's the actual molecule that's extracted, there is nothing left from the plant to affect the thyroid. But I think you'll find it's now synthesised in a lab, see this and this.

The only hormone/bio-chemical that I do know that suppresses oestrogen safely is progesterone. Which to my mind is far better than allowing oestrogen to reach excessive levels, and then having to get rid of it! Take care, Wray
