I have not had a period since December. It is now April 18. I just turned 49 years old. I started progesterone cream Saturday the 12th (1/8 tsp a day)and started bleeding on the 16. Is this a period? Do I continue to take it for 25 days the off for 5? or do I take for two weeks. Im confused.

Hi Denise

At 49 you are now in Peri-Menopause heading towards Menopause which can be a difficult time for most women as the monthly cycle becomes irregular and difficult to follow. Generally speaking, a missed period for 12 months indicates menopause.

You are not using the correct amount of progesterone cream, nothing less than 100mg-200mg per day is needed and the correct progesterone concentration must be used. I am not sure who advised you to use progesterone for 25 days and off 5 days, this is incorrect. Progesterone should be used by following your monthly cycle, but because you have not had a period since December this is difficult to do. It is best that you use the cream every day from now on with NO breaks. Continue use though any bleeding/spotting/clotting that may occur. Please read How to use Progesterone Cream.

Do you know what your Vitamin D level is as a deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone, it is also connected to every single cell and its formation in our bodies making it vital.

Hope this helps you.
