Can you take progesterone only after a hysterectomy?

by Heather

Hi!
I am 35 years old and had a complete hysterectomy 6 months ago. Prior to the hysterectomy I was estrogen dominant. After the hysterectomy I had terrible hot flashes I could not sleep. My doctor put me on an estrogen patch and progesterone. Since I have been on the estrogen and progesterone I have gained 15 pounds and I am doing everything I can to stop the weight gain with no success. I lowered the estrogen and increased the progesterone. Since the increase of progesterone, I sleep so much better and my hot flashes have completely gone away. I feel the weight gain is from the estrogen. Is it possible to discontinue the use of the estrogen patch and just take the progesterone? My dr. says my estrogen levels are low, but since I was estrogen dominant before surgery is it possible the progesterone will take away the hot flashes without gaining more weight?

I was wondering if you have ever found any answers to this question? I have a similar situation too.
