I am really confused and totally confused, I dont have a solution. I got married in sep 2010. Nov 2010 I conceived, after 5 - 6 weeks get to know that there is no relevant growth was given duphaston tabs for another 2 weeks but no use and no growth thus underwent D/C.Doctors said no tests needs to be done as this can happen for the 1st time 2nd pregnancy will be fine. Witing 2 months I conceievd again went to doctor immdtly checekd she immdtly started me on baby aspirin and duphaston again, scanned but again the same same story repeated no answers from the doctor and again did a D/C. Well this time devasted waitied for 7 mnths, visited doctor she put on baby aspirin and folic acid and I conceived the same month.immdtly duphaston tablet was started 1 tab every night. At 5 weeks scan showed proper sac but too early to see the pole or heart beat. At this point doc started with injections 1 shot per week. I took 2 shots and took a scan to see that the sac is collapsing, and there is no growth the same time doctor stopped all support system and asked me to wait for 2 weeks to see If i bleed. Its 2 weeks now and I havnt still so I went to see the doc again but she was on an emergency leave thus anotheer senior doc saw me. Took a scan again same thing then asked me to do coagulation profile and then she will decide to give me tablet to initiate bleeding or do D/C. Frustrated at the attitude I refused to do any thing further with them. today I am going to see another doctor for 2nd opinion and take a D/C. I have done all possible tests required on this earth but all is well and therz no issue at all. After reading on your site I realised I was never tested for my progesterone levels though never when I have been pregnant. I feel they should have done it this time atleast as I fall in high risk now? Today I wud be asking this question about progesterone level to this doc. I was always put on just one tab of duphston all the 3 times. Now they have suggested that next pregnancy I wud be put on low molecular heparin every day for 9 mnths. But I am not convinced as i think is this the real problem? My coagulation profile is normal then why heparin. Your questionaire showed me that I am on higher side of low progesterone then why arent docs following this too. I am convinced with what you have suggested and I think that is the only solution to my problem,. Need your help further in suggesting or advising me solution to this problem of mine.

Hi Sona You are quite right, a lack of progesterone early in pregnancy often results in a miscarriage. Stress also drops progesterone levels sharply and can cause one too, I had 5 due to stress. With the stress you've been put through, it doesn't surprise me you keep having miscarriages. Duphaston contains dydrogesterone, a synthetic progestin, given in the hopes it will raise progesterone levels. But because it's a progestin, it's not broken down into the normal progesterone metabolites, these are as important as progesterone itself. For more info on progestins see here.
(Scroll down to the second link on Google to see the full pdf article entitled "Classification and pharmacology of progestins"). There is a section on dydrogesterone. If you have a normal coagulation profile I can't see any point in the aspirin or heparin! Besides progesterone is effective at preventing clots, because it reduces thrombin by 10-15%, see here. Please have a vitamin D test done, as lack of this not only reduces the benefits of progesterone, but can cause miscarriages too, see here, here and here. It's as vital as progesterone for a successful pregnancy, see here, here, here, here, here, here and here. Continued below.

Hi Sona These are excellent videos to watch too, see here and here. Finally it is also effective at preventing clots, see here, here, here and here. Another nutrient you could consider is taurine, this is so vital for the growth of the foetus and for the newborn, see here, here and here. So please have a vitamin D test done. For more info on vitamin D levels, test kits etc see the Vitamin D Council, GrassrootsHealth, Birmingham Hospital and Vitamin D Links websites. Blood levels should be 70-100ng/ml or 175-250nmol/L and not the 30ng/ml or 75nmol/L most labs and doctors regard as adequate. The minimum daily dose should be 5000iu's per day, although the latest research indicates it should be 10,000iu's per day, see here. And have a look through our Pregnancy page and this page here too. Take care Wray

thank you for your reply its been very helpful. I will be getting my Vit D and Vit B-12 checked as I had recently shifted to being on Vegan diet. Just to update today I underwent D&C for the 3rd time i had no choice as natural bleeding was difficult and I have consulted a fertility expert here so he too suggested D&c is the best option now to get all cleared off. I will be seeing in 15 days now and we are thinking of going for an IUI now as we have no other known cause. I would like to have your expert comments on going ahead with the IUI knowning my history. Thank u

Hi Sona I would really recommend having your vitamin D levels checked first, before having the IUI, it could be this is all you need. Plus try the progesterone too. I didn't realise you were a vegan, you will need the taurine if you fall pregnant, as it's not found in any vegetable, fruit, seeds or nuts, only animal protein, fish having the highest level. Please let me know what your vitamin D levels are. Take care Wray
