100 mg synthetic progesterone& 0.05 estadoill 24/7 patch

Do I need to wheen myself off the patch or just remove it altogether? Will the progesterone alone have the same great effects as the two together? A strong sex drive & lubricated vagina.my insurance won't pay for natural progesterone
The patch is estadoil 0.05 ( 24/7 )wkly. Progesterone is 100 mg. daily. I'm just worried about using the (2) together I feel great with no hot sweats or flashes I now sleep great.I must also mention I had an hysterectomy 25 yrs ago leaving ( 1 ) overie thanks for any help. Hazel

Hi Hazel

It is always best to wean off HRT as it is kinder on the body. It's a bit difficult with a patch, but what I suggest is to cut the patch in half and wean off that way.  We do have a page explaining the correct way to wean off HRT, see here. Progesterone must be used at the same time. Please read the How to use Progesterone Cream page. A good organic progesterone cream such as Natpro which is a 3% cream is an excellent lubrication when inserted in the vagina at night.  It is also the best place for absorption.

You must expect some strange things to happen while you wean off HRT.  Progesterone needs to be given a chance to work and become the dominant hormone.  This can take between 2-6 months depending on adverse symptoms, it could take longer. Never use progesterone once a day, use half the amount in the morning and the other half at night this will enable progesterone levels to remain stable.  Please be aware of any Estrogen Dominance symptoms that you most probably will experience due to the HRT that you are taking.

Even though you still have one ovary, you are in Menopause.
